Idaho's Energy Future

If you look at a map of where wind development has taken off in Idaho, you’ll notice an area near American Falls. There, in the rolling agricultural land of southeast Idaho, Edith Kopp stands on a high hillside. She gazes out with satisfaction at more than a dozen turbines, turning steadily. “This is a pretty constant wind,” she says. “They’re all going!”

Marmen Wind Towers

Marmen believes in the importance of renewable resources in the energy landscape. The company started its activities in this sector in 2002 with the construction of plants designed specifically for the manufacture of wind towers in Trois-Rivières. In 2005, it increased its tower production capacity with the opening of Marmen Énergie in Matane.

SMUD

The world of renewable energy spans utility-sized projects that can power thousands of homes down to an individual home that buys renewable power from SMUD’s Greenergy program. And there are plenty of opportunities in between. You can add solar panels to your home or business, or buy a SolarSmartSM home with solar already built in. If you’re a renter, you can invest in a local solar project through SMUD’s Solar Shares. See how SMUD and customers like you are bringing renewable energy to our community.

Everpower

Heading eastbound, just as you approach the Somerset service plaza, a striking sight appears in the distance: six huge, white metallic blooms rising above a forested ridge. That’s how you know you’re in wind country. Somerset County is home to eight of Pennsylvania’s 25 commercial wind farms.

Bent Tree Wind Farm

Wind Capital Group developed the Bent Tree Wind Farm site near the city of Albert Lea in Freeborn County, Minnesota. In early 2009 Wind Capital Group sold the 400MW construction-ready site to Wisconsin Power and Light Co. (WPL), an Alliant Energy Company. The Bent Tree wind farm project area spans over 32,500 acres of land, representing 150 individual Land Lease and Easement Agreements. The wind farm employs 25 individuals directly and indirectly through contracts, bringing positive economic activity to the area. WPL completed construction on the first phase of the project in February 2011. Phase 1 consists of 122 turbines capable of producing 200 MW of energy, which is enough to power 50,000 homes. Phase II is pending due to market needs. When fully-constructed, Bent Tree will have the ability to generate up to 400 MW of emission-free energy.

Iowa

Energy solutions for the future will increasingly depend on the use of renewable energy resources. Siemens is a leading provider of renewable energy technology globally, and has a strong focus on efficient and reliable wind power turbines in the U.S.

AWEA

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is the national trade association for the U.S. wind industry – the country’s fastest growing energy industry. With thousands of wind industry members and wind policy advocates, AWEA promotes wind energy as a clean source of electricity for American consumers.

Idaho Falls Wind Farm

The picture with the title 22,000-Acre Wind Farm was taken by the photographer Ross Dean Mitchell .com on 26 August 2012 and published over Panoramio. 22,000-Acre Wind Farm is next to Massacre Rocks Rest Area and is located in Power County, Idaho, United States.

Open E.I.

OpenEI is growing into a global leader in the energy data realm - specifically analyses on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The platform is a wiki, similar to Wikipedia’s Wiki, with which many people are already familiar. Users can view, edit, and add data – and download data for free. We invite you to join our user community and get involved. With your help, we can provide the most current information needed to make informed decisions on energy, market investment, and technology development. Your data will also help create new businesses, build innovative tools and inspire new analyses. In addition to the Wiki, OpenEI provides a platform for sharing datasets.
